Shawna Wilde's Message for July

  Most of you who know me know that I’m a quilter.  I cherish the image of a quilting bee where friends are bent over their sewing projects as they stitch quilts and share their concerns and their triumphs, effectively mending the holes in their lives.  What would we ever do without our friends?  As women, our friends are as essential to our worlds as breathing in and breathing out.  As we trust and confide in our friends, we let them into our hearts and we grow to love each other.  I love a quote by Sister Marjorie Pay Hinckley that I have permanently affixed to my quilting table.  It reads:

  “We are all in this together.  We need each other, Oh, how we need each other.  Those of us who are old need you who are young.  And, hopefully, you who are young need some of us who are old.  It is a sociological fact that women need women.  We need deep and satisfying and loyal friendships with each other.  These friendships are a necessary source of sustenance.  We need to renew our faith each day.  We need to lock arms and help build the kingdom so that it will roll forth and fill the whole earth.”  Sister Marjorie Pay Hinckley

  Sadly, the quilting bee reflects a time gone by, but all of our true friendships become the warm, rich blankets that we call our lives.  When the sun shines and when the rains fall, we look to our friends who will always stand by us, certain that when we have even one true friend, we are never alone.  I am certain that when we offer ourselves in friendship, we make a mighty contribution to God’s work and the ultimate happiness of His children.

We All Share Pioneer Legacy

Come, Come, Ye Saints

Come, come, ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear;  But with joy wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear, Grace shall be as your day.
Tis better far for us to strive  Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this, and joy your hearts will swell - All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard? Tis not so; all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward  If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.  Our God will never us forsake;
And soon we'll have this tale to tell - All is well! All is well!

We'll find the place which God for us prepared, Far away in the West.
Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid; There the saints will be blessed.
We'll make the air with music ring, Shout praises to our God and King;
Above the rest these words we'll tell - All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey's through, Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too; With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again To see the Saints their rest obtain,
Oh, how we'll make this chorus swell - All is well! All is well!

The World Needs Pioneers Today

President Thomas S. Monson—who also praises early pioneers for their courage and faith in the midst of hardships—emphasizes the importance of honoring their legacy by living the gospel.

“Can we somehow muster the courage and that steadfastness of purpose which characterized the pioneers of a former generation?” President Monson asks. “Can you and I, in actual fact, be pioneers today? A dictionary defines a pioneer as ‘one who goes before, showing others the way to follow.’ Oh, how the world needs pioneers today!”

President Monson teaches that Latter-day Saints can be modern-day pioneers by being aware of the needs of others and then reaching out to rescue them and show them the way to Christ.

Reflecting on this heritage that the early pioneers left, Elder Perry remembers the words of a former president of the United States, who talked about “[going] back to the past way of thinking.”

“His counsel still resonates within me,” Elder Perry says. “There is something about reviewing the lessons of the past to prepare us to face the challenges of the future. What a glorious legacy of faith, courage, and ingenuity those noble early Mormon pioneers have left for us to build upon. My admiration for them deepens the longer I live.”

Do the basic things and, before you realize it, your life will be full of spiritual understanding that will confirm to you that your Heavenly Father loves you. When a person knows this, then life will be full of purpose and meaning, making balance easier to maintain.

THE ULTIMATE FORMULA FOR HAPPINESS:
  "The gospel of Jesus Christ has the answers to all of our problems.  The gospel is not a secret.  It is not complicated or hidden…It is not someone's theory or proposition.  It does not come from man at all.  It springs from the pure and everlasting waters of the Creator of the universe, who knows truths we cannot even begin to comprehend. And with that knowledge, He has given us the gospel---a divine gift, the ultimate formula for happiness and success."

President Bailey's Message

Dear Sisters,

On behalf of the Stake Presidency, I would like to let you know how much we love you and pray for you and your families. We admire the strong testimonies your bear and the service you give within our stake and abroad. Individually and as a group, you are great women!

We have just celebrated the 4th of July and all it means to us. I love seeing the American flag posted everywhere – in our neighborhoods and around businesses, parades, fireworks (bigger is better!), warm weather and time spent with family.

In the Book of Mormon, we are taught true loyalty and patriotism by the bravery of the 2,000 stripling warriors. Their story reminds me of the brave men and women who have served and are currently serving our country in the armed services. To make my point, when you read “Nephites,” in Alma 53:17, substitute it for “Americans” and “America”.

“And they entered into a covenant to fight for the liberty of the Nephites, yea, to protect the land unto the laying down of their lives; yea, even they covenanted that they never would give up their liberty, but they would fight in all cases to protect the Nephites and themselves from bondage.”

May we keep the commandments and be worthy of the Lord’s promise to protect this great land. May God bless America!

Sure Love Ya,

Rich Bailey

"I issue a call for the conviction we all must have burning in our hearts that this is the work of God and that it requires the best we can give to the effort.  My appeal is that you nurture your own physical and spiritual strength so that you have a deep reservoir of faith to call upon when tasks or challenges or demands of one kind or another come.  Pray a little more, study a little more, shut out the noise and shut down the clamor, enjoy nature, call down personal revelation, search your soul, and search the heavens for the testimony that led our pioneer parents.  Then, when you need to reach down inside a little deeper and a little farther to face life and do your work, you will be sure there is something down there to call upon."
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
